Norwich swimmers clinch division title

Boys’ Swimming

Norwich 97, Chenango Valley 68

FENTON – For the first time in 14 years, Norwich will hang a swimming banner in its gymnasium.

The Tornado boys completed a perfect run through the STAC East division beating Chenango Valley Friday night to clinch the school’s first division title – boys or girls – since 2000.

It was a fitting turnaround for NHS, who lost to CV at home a season ago in winner-takes-the-division matchup. “Chenango Valley is down a little bit this year with numbers, and we’re on the strong side,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “It’s a shallow pool (at Chenango Valley) and we didn’t have personal-best times, but we had more than enough good swims to win the title.”
