NORWICH – Norwich took advantage of Oxford’s depleted lineup to earn a dual meet victory over the Blachhawks Thursday evening at Norwich High School.

Norwich, who gave up a bunch of forfeits in a loss to Johnson City last week, accepted six forfeits from the Blackhawks to nearly ensure a victory. “We were in the same boat last week with injuries and illnesses,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “For the guys in the middle of our lineup, it was a good opportunity to get some mat time.”

Oxford’s Joe Jackson (182) and Nate Hansen (113) picked up pinfalls in the only matches contested among the first 11 weight classes. Norwich picked up steam later on with Cole Rifanburg (120) winning by fall, Carter Hubbard (126) grabbing a win by major decision, and Tristan Rifanburg (138), who closed the meet with a pin.

Oxford’s other victory on the mat came from Trenton Piatt (132), who earned two escapes in a 2-0 victory over Trey Muserallo.

Norwich is at Chenango Forks Tuesday.
