OXFORD – Residents of the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford may not be able to get out and shop for the holidays like many, but for more than 30 years – with the help of The 6th District American Legion – war veterans have had the shopping experience brought to them, aiding them into a more enjoyable Christmas.

Despite being cancelled last week for the first time since 1983 due to the severe weather, volunteers at the Legion and staff at the Vets’ Home wouldn't be discouraged by mother nature from holding their annual Christmas resident gift shopping party.

Residents of the home will have the opportunity to choose three gifts from a variety of items donated and purchased by the Legion specifically for the event. While the program allows residents to pick out their own gifts for family members or friends, the yearly occurrence has transformed into a festive celebration for staff, volunteers and residents to mingle and celebrate the season.
