Norwich woman granted Legion’s ‘Award of Excellence’ at annual visit

NORWICH – On Nov. 22, the Chenango County American Legion hosted a joint visitation by the Legion’s top state level officials – Department of New York State Commander Kenneth Governor, State Auxiliary President Barbara Corker, and State Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Detachment Commander John P. Chang.

Each year during their one-year terms in office, the officials travel to all of New York’s sixty-two counties and visit each of the state’s five veterans’ homes as part of the annual visitation. Their purpose is to coordinate Legion activities, honor members with exemplary service, and observe and monitor what is being done for veterans and their families on a local level.

One order of business that State Commander Governor attended to while visiting Chenango County was the presentation of the Department Commander's Award of Excellence to Patricia (PJ) Cobb, a member of the Lt. Warren E. Eaton American Legion Post 189, citing her commitment to helping veterans.
