LAURENS – G-MU struggled to break the pressure defenses of South Kortright and Afton in losing a pair of games at the Pat Grasso Tournament Friday and Saturday respectively.

In Saturday’s tournament consoolation game, Afton’s Payton Cutting scored 18 points as her club built a 13-point lead after three periods. “When we were able to play halfcourt defense, we were okay,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “Without that true ballhandler we just turned it over too many times.”

The Raiders’ Mackenzie Talbot, an all-tournament pick, led G-MU with 18 points.

Friday, G-MU raced to a six-point lead over the Rams in the first quarter, but again struggled to break full-court pressure. South Kortright outscored G-MU34-7 over the middle two periods. “South Kortright is considered one of the favorites in Section IV this year, and for one quarter, be did everything right,” Johnson said. “We just kind of lost it for a couple of quarters.”
