NORWICH – Scores of walkers and runners from all over the area will lace-up and pound the pavement for a good cause this weekend as the inaugural Halfway to St. Baldrick’s Family 5K Run/Walk takes to the streets of the City of Norwich.

This first-ever road race for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation marks the midpoint to the organization’s more widely known head-shaving fundraiser held every March. In keeping with the charity’s mission to offer support for the victims and families of childhood cancer, all proceeds will go directly toward raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.

The 5K event - sponsored by New York Central Mutual Insurance, the Label Gallery, Chobani, The Evening Sun, and the Pennysaver - takes-off at 9 a.m. Saturday from the start line in East Park in downtown Norwich. Cost is $20 for adults who pre-register, $15 for students. Registration the day of the race will be $25 for adults and $20 for students.

According to A. Jones, Norwich St. Baldrick’s event coordinator, the Halfway to St. Baldrick’s 5K is part of an ongoing effort to keep childhood cancer research at the forefront of people’s minds year-round.
