Oxford’s Cinderella run ends in pony league title game

ONEONTA – Oxford’s Cinderella run to the championship game of the Otsenango Pony League ended in a 7-0 shutout loss to the Oneonta Hurricanes, earlier this month.

Oxford qualified for the postseason finishing second in division play with a 4-5 overall record. It blanked higher-seeded Sidney in the quarterfinals, and blasted Unatego 7-1 in the semifinals to set up its finals matchup.

Oneonta starter Zak Green held the Oxford bats in check pitching five scoreless innings for the win. Green struck out six and scattered three hits. Casey Bishop came on to pitch the final two frames fanning three batters and surrendering a single basehit.
