Norwich juniors have sights set on track and field state titles

Norwich juniors Brooke Bonney and Matt Murray have their sights set on the top of the podium at this weekend's New York State track and field championships.

Murray was one step from the top a season ago when he placed second in Division II in the 400 meters, while Bonney, in just her first year of track and field, was sixth in the state in the shot put.

A season later, the two dynamic Purple Tornado athletes have an opportunity to win Norwich's first track and field state title in 13 years. Bonney, based on her school-record throw in the discus at last week's New York State qualifier, is among the top four seeds in that event, while Murray, who was third in Section IV in the 800 meters figures to improve on that performance this week. Running in the fast heat of the 800, all 12 runners in Murray's race are separated by a mere two seconds.
