Hancock 12, Greene 11
HANCOCK – Three-time defending MAC champion Greene was eliminated from the league playoffs Thursday as Hancock rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
After a pair of walks, Caitlin Wormuth and Lea Newman had RBI singles for the Wildcats. Wormuth and Newman would eventually score after Greene errors to give the host team the lead for good.
“We were hitting the ball like crazy early in the game,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “Hancock made some great plays, and we could have had more runs. We continued to hit it pretty good until the last couple of innings. We just couldn’t put anything together in the sixth and seventh.”
Greene built a 10-3 lead after scoring six in the third and four more runs in the fourth. Kiley Schaff had a two-run triple, and Shawn Ayers added an RBI double in the third. Laura Durdon led Greene’s batters with three hits and one RBI. Maddie Brink and Katelyn Shear finished with two hits apiece.
Wormuth and Megan Smith had two hits for Hancock, who play either Afton or Deposit in the league championship game.
Greene (10-4) hosts its own tournament Friday and Saturday.
