G-MU 7, Morris 6

COPES CORNERS – G-MU scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to avenge an 18-0 loss to Morris from earlier this season.

Jason Barrows was hit by a pitch to start the seventh, and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Tim French followed with a hard single into the gap plating Barrows with the winner.

Barrows struck out 12 and scattered seven hits in G-MU’s fourth win this season. “We’ve been in close games and we know what we are capable of. That last game (against Morris) was not us,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “We’ve set a goal to get back to .500 and make the playoffs, so we needed to have this game.”

French finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Andy Baker added a two-run single in the second inning.

Unatego 5, Unadilla Valley 2

NEW BERLIN – Unatego snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth, and added two more in the fifth to pull away from Unadilla Valley Wednesday.

Quinn Barnhart had an RBI triple in the first for Unatego, Tanner Winchester drove in a run in the fourth, and Tyler Butler’s sacrifice fly raised the Spartans’ lead to four runs.

Unadilla Valley failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity in the fourth. The Storm loaded the bases with no outs, but failed to score a run. Unatego pitcher Josh Feyerabend recorded back-to-back strikeouts, and catcher Lucas DeJoy picked off a runner at first base.

“We had some guys on base early in the game, we just couldn’t get the big hit,” said UV coach Tom Locke. “Feyerabend did a good job of pitching out of jams.”

Nate Shackleton scored both of UV’s runs, and Kurt Haycook added two hits in the loss.
