Sheriff's Office confiscates more than 100 pounds of marijuana

SHERBURNE – Following a month-long investigation, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office today executed a warrant on a Pleasant Valley Road residence in Sherburne, seizing approximately 100 pounds of processed marijuana and an estimated $36,000 in cash.

Cash, drugs, proceeds from sales and paraphernalia were also seized during the raid, according to authorities, and massive quantity of drugs represents the largest single seizure of processed marijuana by the Sheriff’s Office in the last 25 years.

“It’s a significant amount of drugs and part of our ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade [in Chenango County],” said Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr., who added the large quantity of confiscated drugs represents a giant step forward in that struggle. “It’s a huge amount of drugs taken off of the streets and we are going continue working to keep drugs off of the streets.”

So far one related arrest has been made, while the Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. A complete story will appear in Friday’s edition of The Evening Sun.
