SHERBURNE - Sherburne-Earlville burst out of the gates quickly in its regular season finale against Canastota.

The Marauders started the game with a 14-2 lead three minutes into play, and built their lead to as many as 25 points in the first half en route to the Center State Conference division win. The win also clinched a tie for the division title along with Clinton.

“Our guys really came out ready to play,”  said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We had five different guys score in the first quarter, and we played outstanding defense. We had a lot of good balance, and this was a good way to get ready for sectionals.”

Jesse Yerton hit a pair of threes in the first quarter, Matt Smith also had three first-quarter buckets, and senior Sam Caton scored 10 in the first, two of those points on a first-quarter alley-oop dunk as the lead was 36-11 late in the opening half.

Yerton led with 13 points, Caton scored 12, and Smith had 11 in the S-E victory, who will likely host a first-round Section III playoff game on Friday.
