NORWICH – Seven people charged with a variety of felony and misdemeanor crimes appeared in county court Friday, five pleading not guilty to the charges brought against them while two others entered guilty pleas and were subsequently sentenced to interim probation.

• Scott L. Lavoie, 24, West Sand Lake, pleaded not guilty to one count of first degree criminal nuisance, a class E felony.

The charges stem from an Aug. 1 drug raid at 8 Pleasant St., Norwich, where Lavoie was residing, that resulted in authorities confiscating an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, heroin, drug paraphernalia and other narcotics.

Lavoie was released on his own recognizance and could face up to four years in state prison if he were to violate the terms and/or conditions of his release. He will re-appear in court at a later date.

• Stephen A. Georgia, 24, Davenport, was sentenced to one year interim probation after pleading guilty to one count of felony driving while intoxicated. If he successfully completes his interim probation, the felony charge will be dropped to a misdemeanor and Georgia will subsequently be sentenced to three years probation with credit for the original year of interim probation served.
