NORWICH – A former Norwich City Police officer was arrested on an active arrest warrant issued by the State of Wisconsin as a fugitive from justice Thursday and is scheduled to appear in County Court this morning for his initial arraignment.

Evan Matthew Romaine, 27, of Norwich, was held at the Norwich City Police Department pending his arraignment. It was unknown as of press time exactly what Romaine has been charged with, although Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride stated there is an allegation that the former police officer was involved in an assault of some kind that occurred in Wisconsin.

Romaine is a 2010 graduate of the Binghamton Police Academy and former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, honorably discharged in September of 2007. According to Norwich City Police Chief Joseph Angelino, Romaine resigned Thursday, prior to his arrest at approximately 5:30 p.m.
