COOPERSTOWN - Sherburne-Earlville upended defending Section III Class C champion Cooperstown Tuesday on the road in its first test this season against Center State Conference competition.

Austin Jasper and Sam Caton led a strong S-E fourth quarter to break away from a 36-36 tie. Jasper had 11 of his game-high 26 points in the final stanza, and Caton bucketed six on his way to a 12-point game. It was Caton’s first game of the season after missing the first two contests due to injury. “Those two (Jasper and Caton) play off of each very well,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “It’s easier for the both of them when the other one is in the game.”

CHENANGO BRIDGE – Oxford coach Tim Davis summed up Chenango Valley in three words following his team’s lopsided loss: “They’re pretty good,” the Blackhawks mentor said.

Zach Collins hit a three-pointer late in the first quarter to give CV an 11-6 lead. From there, the Warriors poured it on finishing with 10 three balls on 19 attempts. Collins, Chris Ruffo, and Matt Personius had seven points apiece in a 21-5 second quarter to extend the home team’s lead to 21 points.

Ruffo led with 21 points and Collins added 19 markers. “They upped the tempo enough so that we weren’t getting good shots, and we turned it over a bunch,” Davis said.
