NHS student hospitalized with serious injuries after assault

NORWICH – A Norwich High School student was transported via ambulance to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City Thursday following an assault that occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. in a high school hallway.

The Norwich City Police Department responded to the incident, and while the students’ names have not been released, one source – who wished to remain anonymous – said there had been previous incidents involving violence between the two students involved in the altercation, including a fight that took place as recently as two weeks ago, confirmed by school officials.

Rumors that the high school had been locked down while emergency personnel tended to the injured student could not be confirmed, and no details concerning the student’s injuries have been released, although they are believed to be severe. It is also possible that the student suffered a seizure following the attack, according to the aforementioned anonymous source.
