Big win for UV soccer program

BOYS’ SOCCER

Unadilla Valley 1, Delhi 0

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley defeated Delhi for the first time in at least seven seasons in recording its third shutout victory of the season Wednesday night.

Nate Shackelton fed Colin Izard on a perfect through pass to the top of the 18-yard box. Izard buried his shot past the hands of Delhi goalie Zach Fogle. “This win was huge. It was the biggest win for these kids and the biggest of my coaching career,” said UV coach Ryan Houck. “Delhi is excellent this year, and will be right there in the mix for the divison title at the end of the season.”

After the goal, UV tightened up its defense by cutting down passing lanes and dropping more men into the defensive zone on Delhi offensive attacks. “We really played the second half to hold the lead, and we switched our formation,” Houck said. “We didn’t give them much, and our motto in the second half was to not make mistakes.”
