Sherburne-Earlville Tournament

SHERBURNE – After outlasting Norwich in overtime to reach its own tournament finals, the Marauders captured their third overall home tourney title toppling Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Saturday evening, 2-1.

Carter Cole nailed a laser-like direct kick from about 25 yards out with under 10 minutes to play to provide S-E with the margin of victory.

V-V-S tallied in the game’s first five minutes, and that lead stood up for much of the first half until Elijah Morris tied the contest for S-E.

Friday, Michael Harlost headed in a cross from Kevin Vibbard four minutes into the second sudden-victory overtime to give the host club a 2-1 win over the Purple Tornado.

S-E dodged a bullet in the first overtime when Norwich was awarded a penalty kick after a handball in the box, but failed to capitalize on the golden opportunity.

Norwich snagged a one-goal lead 24 minutes into the second half when Curtis Woodard scored unassisted. Moments later, Cole nailed the tying goal for S-E on an unassisted shot.
