Lucas Oil Pro Motocross descends on Unadilla this weekend

COLUMBUS – The fastest riders on the planet and the world’s most prestigious motocross championship is making its annual visit to Central New York for the tenth round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.

The highly-anticipated Red Bull Unadilla National from legendary Unadilla in New Berlin will commence on Saturday, Au. 18, giving motocross fans throughout Central New York the opportunity to witness one of the most physically demanding, yet captivating forms of racing. As one of the longest-running events of the entire 12-race championship, Unadilla will challenge the world’s best motocross athletes with its one-of-a-kind mix of rough terrain, high speed, and excitement-inducing big air.

While current points leader Ryan Dungey and former champion James Stewart headline the field of competitors set to converge on New Berlin, a contingent of New York natvies will be eagerly awaiting their chance to give the home crowd something to cheer about.

• Justin Barcia, of Monroe, N.Y. has established himself as one of the sport’s rising stars. Nicknamed “Bam Bam” for his hard-charging style, Barcia gives it all he has every time he takes to the track. His flashy riding skills and knack for getting strong starts have made him a prominent figure of the 250 Class, where he sits second in the championship with two victories. Barcia has yet to win at his home track, but hopes to change that his season.
