Sherburne-Earlville 4, Clinton 3
CLINTON – Sherburne-Earlville became the first Section III team to beat Clinton this season knocking off the state-ranked Warriors Thursday.
Marauders pitcher Matt Smith did not strike out or walk a batter, and the S-E defense played error-free behind Smith.
Aiding Smith on offense were Mick Khoury and Carter Cole. Khoury had a two-out RBI single in the third to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead, and Carter Cole’s two-run single in the fourth provided S-E with the winning runs.
Smith finished the game retiring the final six Clinton batters in order, and the win moves S-E within one game of the Warriors in the Center State Conference Division One race. “We fielded every groundball and every flyball, that’s how good our defense was,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “We did a great job fielding the ball, and this is probably my biggest coaching win, ever.”
The Marauders are now 6-2 in division play. Number nine hitter, Felix Rodriguez, and Cole had two hits.
B-G 8, Greene 3
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford’s offense broke loose for six runs in the fifth inning Thursday, and junior hurler Austin Bauerle pitched a complete-game victory in B-G’s second MAC league win of the season.
Lucas Butcher’s RBI single scored Jake Mazzarella with the go-ahead run, and Corbin Palmer followed with an RBI single as part of a six-hit inning for the Bobcats. “We were able to string some hits together, and it was probably our best game of the season,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly. “All phases of the game kind of worked for us today.”
Palmer and Butcher each had two hits and two RBI in the win. Greene’s Nick Viglucci was a perfect 3-for-3.
Bauerle allowed just two earned runs and scattered seven hits.
