Sherburne-Earlville 18, Morrisville-Eaton 0 (5 innings)

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville scored in every inning in shutting out Morrisville-Eaton Wednesday.

S-E junior Matt Smith faced one batter over the minimum striking out 11 in five innings, walking none, and allowing just one single. “Matt is throwing it really well right now, and obviously we hit the heck out of the ball today,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.

Jake Bohnert, Mike Wilson, and Dave Sulton all had three hits for S-E, who finished with 17 hits in just four innings worth of at-bats.

Owego 27, Norwich 3

NORWICH – Norwich struggled to contain Owego’s batters all game giving up 27 hits in blowout defeat Wednesday at Veterans Park.

Owego, playing its season opener, scored early and often building a 13-2 lead after three innings to support winning pitcher Devin Bensley. Bensley also had a big day at the plate with five hits, and six RBI. Stephen Yanchus had two triples, and Matt Francis homered.

Colby Griffin was 2-for-3 to lead Norwich.
