DVD Patrol

It’s time, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is on the scene again. This week is a bit sad because as we all know Whitney Houston has passed away and the patrol has done something to acknowledge this. The Toddster would be remiss if he didn’t find a way to honor her in some way. She had so much to give from the world of music, but she also managed to leave a movie or two behind too. There are even a few DVDs here as well.

New on DVD

The Rum Diary - Sometimes people need a change of scenery. For Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp), this was just what he needed. Being a journalist in the big city, it can be hard so Paul decides to move to Puerto Rico and write for a small newspaper down there. The problems of the big city do have a way of following you when you don’t expect it. Paul finds out a real estate developer named Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart) who has some shady deals going on. Also, Paul meets a yoing woman named Chenault (Amber Heard) who he can’t stop thinking about. Sanderson sets his eyes on Paul and wants him to start writing what he wants him to. Paul isn’t sure what to make of him. Will he be able to find a way to do what Sanderson wants or will Paul make more changes? Depp is currently involved with the new version of “The Lone Ranger” but sources tell me that the production has been delayed due to production problems.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 - Getting married is different for everybody. Especially Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson). For everyone’s favorite vampire couple, this couldn’t be more true. It’s been a long and hard road for them but they finally make to the altar. Even Jacob (Taylor Lautner) has to admit that Bella has made her choice. He doesn’t like it but he has to live with it. Some time later, they’re enjoying their honeymoon and Bella finds out that she is going to have a baby. This gets even more complicated when she is still human and the baby is half vampire and half human. Jacob’s family doesn’t like this news and they have to decided this has to be stopped. Edward and his family will do whatever it takes to save Bella and the baby. Jacob has another choice to make. Save Bella and the baby or take his family’s side. Will Jacob make the right choice? Sources tell me that the release date for Part 2 has been changed and has been set for November.

The Bodyguard - Protecting people is never an easy job. Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) knows this only too well. He’s protected two Presidents and important heads of state all over the World. Now he’s about to get a new job protecting Singing Sensation Rachel Marin (Whitney Houston). Rachel’s lifestyle takes Frank a bit by surprise but she likes to do things her own way. Her ways are about to change when Frank finds out that someone is stalking Rachel and wants her all to themselves. Frank has to do whatever it takes to stop them and if that means making Rachel do things his way, that’s what will happen. Is Frank going to be able to stop the threat to Rachel in time?

A couple of movies starring Houston available on DVD include “Waiting to Exhale” and “The Preacher’s Wife.”

Houston was also working on another movie at the time of her passing called “Sparkle.” More on this as it develops.

New on Blu Ray

Lady and the Tramp - Walt Disney always has a way of finding some great animated stories. In this classic just released on Blu Ray, a cocker spaniel named “Lady” had the best of everything and her owners love her. Things change when they find out they are about to have a baby. So relatives come to stay and help out. They don’t exactly like having Lady around so they find a way to get rid of her. Lady strikes out on her own and she meets a dog on the street nicknamed “Tramp” who is a bit streetwise and helps Lady out of a jam. Tramp gets to know her a bit and they like each other. Some time later, Lady’s owners find out what their relatives have done and manage to find her. Their relatives are still around and still think Lady should be around. They think Lady may might be a danger to the baby that has just come home. Lady finds danger when a rat finds its’ way into the house and stalks the baby. Can Lady, with Tramp’s help, save the baby? Disney has another animated adventure coming to theaters called “The Secret World of Arietty” coming soon.
