NORWICH – Following the January resignation of a board member for personal reasons, the Guernsey Memorial Library is currently seeking a volunteer to fill the vacant seat.

According to Guernsey Library Board President David Jennings, the four remaining members of the board met on Thursday for the first time since the trustee’s departure to carry on business as usual, but they’re in need of a fifth member to avoid repeated tied votes on pending issues such as library policies, budget matters and library staff contract negotiations.

A few calls of interest for the position have been made since the board’s meeting, but a new board member has yet to be determined, said Jennings. Anyone wishing to fill the empty spot is encouraged to attend a board meeting before inquiring to assure their interest, he added.

“Our goal is really just to work toward making the library move in the right direction,” Jennings said Monday. He went on to explain that an incoming board member would serve only an interim term until a vote May.
