Stanton captures second straight Windsor title

Wrestling

WINDSOR – Greene senior Kyle Stanton gave Greene its fourth wrestling title taking the 220-pound final last week in the Windsor Christmas Tournament.

Stanton’s victory capped a 4-for-4 effort by the Trojans in the finals, and vaulted Greene past Norwich into third place in the 22-team tournament.

Stanton won three matches over the two-day tournament, the last one a 3-2 overtime decision over nationally-ranked junior Nick Lupi of Huntington. It was third straight year in which Lupi and Stanton met in the Windsor finals with Stanton winning the last two by the exact same score.

After wrestling to a 2-2 tie through regulation and overtime, Stanton secured the decisive point in the third overtime by holding Lupi down for the entire 30-second overtime.
