Greene begins state playoff run Saturday

GREENE – Greene will enjoy the comfort of its home field Saturday when it hosts the first round of the state field hockey playoffs at 1 p.m. against Section II champion Shenendehowa.

The Trojans kick off the state regional finals in a Class A clash that is a rematch of last year’s regional final, one in which Greene advanced with a 2-1 victory. “They’re a good team, and I remember their goalie playing really well,” said Greene’s longtime head coach Sue Carlin. “She was young, and statistically we definitely had the advantage last year. We just couldn’t find the goal as much as we wanted.”

Just like last year, Greene (16-0) has triumphed in all of its contests, and had seldom seen the bottom side of the scoreboard. Unlike last year when Jahna Driscoll and Andrea Day served as dominant scorers, the Trojans are much more balanced with their offensive distribution. Yes, Driscoll is still a primary threat on the front line, but she has welcome assistance from Day’s replacement, Emily Gascon along with Brandee Schoonmaker, Emily Conroe, Cathy Stahl, and Emma Anderson.
