Greene 2, Oxford 0

GREENE – Led by leading scorer Paige Wilcox, Greene (12-4-1) advanced to the second round of the Section IV Class C playoffs with its third win in two weeks over the undermanned Blackhawks.

Wilcox had a goal in each half raising her season total to 39 tallies. Her first goal came with 25 minutes left in the first half when she chased down an Oxford clear, and maneuvered past the Oxford defense to score unassisted. Nicole Tumminia found Wilcox on a long pass to set up the Trojans’ second goal at 20:56 of the second.

“Oxford has had a lot of injuries, and I think it affected them,” said Greene coach Brandy Stone. “But (Oxford) definitely had the potential to be good at any time. Playing them three times in two weeks, it made it hard, and they did well with the players they had.”

Greene plays at Elmira Notre Dame Friday. The Trojans lost to the Crusaders in the sectional semifinals last year. “They lost some players from last year, and we expect it to be a competitive game,” Stone said.
