OWEGO – Norwich padded its first-place advantage in the Section IV Class B tennis tournament Monday afternoon as senior Eli Craig gave the Tornado an individual title at singles, while eight-graders Colin and Alexander Stewart were the runners-up in doubles.
Craig was especially effective on the deuce points in downing Johnson City’s Colin Cory, 6-4, 6-4. “The match came down to a few key points, and Eli has the perfect personality for tennis,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “Things don’t bother him. When he misses a shot, he shrugs it off and moves on. That was indicative in his play in the finals. He missed some shots, but he never stopped and found a way to hang in there and win.”
