SKANEATELES – Despite having just 35 swimmers, the Norwich YMCA Dolphins swim team made an impressive showing this past weekend at the YMCA’s Central New York District Championship swim meet held in Skaneateles.

In the eight-team meet, second-place team finishes went to three sets of Dolphins girls: Those in the 9-10, 13-14, and 15-18 age categories. Dolphins boys, ages 13-14, finished third overall. Additionally, the district commissioner recognized the Dolphins 9-10 girls for an undefeated season leading up to the meet.

Two Dolphins finished with firsts in every event they swam. Lauren Llewellyn, 10, finished tops in the 200-yard freestyle, the 50-yard butterfly, and contributed as a member of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team, which also included Saige Benedict, 9, Melissa Stroh, 9, and Abby Voce, 10. Erin Gawronski, 14, was another undefeated Dolphin, placing first in the 200-yard individual medley, the 500-yard freestyle, and she swam as a member of the 200-yard medley relay team, which also included Ravyn Benedict, 14, Taylor Myers, 13, and Rachel Zieno, 14.
