Historical Society seeks help in identifying old photographs

NORWICH – The Chenango County Historical Society – as part of its renovation and reconstruction of the future Research Center at 43 Rexford St. – is asking local residents and historians for help identifying a number of old photographs.

Dozens of photos, the majority of which are dated between 1900 and 1950, have been unearthed throughout the development of the proposed Research Center, according to Historical Society Director Alan Estus. A smaller number of the photos have been traced back to the late 19th century, he added.

“We’re looking to find any information possible on these pictures and we’re asking the local community for any help they can possibly give us,” stated Estus. “All of these pictures, to the best of our knowledge, are related to Chenango County and its local history.”

The photographs feature all manner of subject material, including families, one-room schoolhouses, local events, businesses, places, people and historical structures, some of which no longer exist.
