SYRACUSE – At the New York State Tennis Championships, Norwich juniors Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart acquitted themselves, but dropped two close matches on Saturday at the Eastside Racquet Club.

Loomis and Stewart, making their second appearance in the tournament in as many years, went three sets with seventh-seeded Minte Tamoshunas and Emily Rubenstein of Orchard Park losing 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-2. In the consolation bracket, Loomis and Stewart again went to a tie-breaker in a pro-set format dropping a 9-8 (7-5) match to Fayettville-Manlius’ Allison Vizgaitis and Carley Romano.

The Tornado netters were coming off a Section IV championship just a week ago, a step up from last year’s runner-up finish. Norwich coach John Stewart said his duo did not accomplish its goal of winning a match at the state tournament, but he was proud of their performances.
