Rabid raccoon reported in Norwich

NORWICH – Rabies activity has been reported in the Norwich area. On Oct. 8, a raccoon was found acting strangely in the Wells Road area and has been confirmed positive for rabies, according to the Chenango County Health Department.

To protect yourself, your family, and your pets, take the following precautions:

• If you see an animal acting strangely contact the Chenango County Sheriffs Department at 334-2000 or Chenango County Environmental Health at 337-1673.

• Vaccinate your pets against rabies. Domestic animals should be up-to-date on rabies vaccinations & dogs should be wearing current license tags on their collars. For information on rabies vaccination for your pets, please call your local veterinarian or Chenango County Environmental Health at 337-1673.
