Work begins on Historical Society’s Research Center

NORWICH – Chenango County Historical Society Director Alan Estus is clearly excited about the many changes taking place at the CCHS Museum at 45 Rexford St. Next on the agenda – a complete renovation of the adjacent property at 43 Rexford St., the future home of a fully modernized Research Center.

Estus said the structure, expected to be completed in the spring of 2011, will also house the Chenango County Historian’s Office and its staff. In addition, the thousands of documents, books, photographs and other historically vital records maintained by the CCHS and the county Historian’s Office will be digitally archived there.

“The majority of these records have never been catalogued and people were unable to search them,” stated Estus. “When this is completed, anyone searching for a specific item or items of interest will be able to do so. Within a reasonable time-frame, we will be able to find it.”
