SHERBURNE – This weekend, fire service members from across the county will be coming together in the Village of Sherburne to raise money to help tragedy-stricken firefighters and their loved ones in times of need.

The event is being held all day Saturday, the same day the Village of Sherburne Fire Department has sponsored a 7 p.m. candlelight vigil and memorial walk since the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.

“The first of this planned annual event will be hosted by the Sherburne Fire Department on Saturday, Sept. 11. With the support and participation from all the fire departments of Chenango County, we hope to have a successful fundraising event,” said Chenango County Fire Chief’s Association President Douglas Shattuck.

The day will start with a wake up breakfast at the Sherburne Fire Station, a golf tournament at Mountain Top Golf Course, a cruise-in and poker run, an auction, food and live entertainment. The entire event will be staffed by volunteers and all the money raised will be donated to the Chenango County Firefighter’s Fund.

“This is a special fundraiser to provide assistance to Chenango County firefighters and their families at a time of serious need from life threatening illness or injury or other catastrophic hardship,” he said.
