Missing Afton teen found

AFTON – The New York State police located a missing Afton teen Friday morning, 24 hours after she disappeared in a wooded area near her home.

State Police Captain James Barnes confirmed Friday that police successfully located 18-year-old Melinda Ann Holbrook of Afton. Barnes did not comment on the woman’s condition but said she was alive and being cared for by emergency personnel.

Police posted a public alert on www.nyalert.gov saying Holbrook was “last seen at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday (August 19) at her residence on Edwards Lane, off Oxbow Road in the Town of Afton. She stated she was going for a walk in the woods and has not returned.” Police believed she was bare foot at the time of her disappearance.

The alert also stated Holbrook was "on numerous medications," which she did not have with her at the time of her disappearance.

Barnes said police would release additional information regarding the incident later today.
