New Berlin Quilt Day This Saturday

NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin will be adding a little color to it’s streets as participants display their hand-stitched quilts at the annual 2010 Quilting in New Berlin Show.

A number of community organizations and quilting groups will gather at Hyde Park with many setting up displays on the lawns along North Main Street.

The Saturday event features a number of activities centered around the park, including St. Theresa’s Church Indoor Quilt Show, the village’s Outdoor Quilt Show and Community Yard Sale, Unadilla Valley Quilter’s Club Quilt Raffle and Bake Sale, New Berlin Police Department Bike Safety Program, Little Foote’s Preschool’s craft tent, the New Berlin Fire Department will have a fire truck on display for the children and their EMS personnel will present a demonstration of basic first aid.

All the events are all scheduled between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. this Saturday at, or very near, Hyde Park in the Village of New Berlin.

This a great tradition for community. People get to get have a good time, enjoy the nice weather and talk with their neighbors,” said New Berlin Village Mayor Wade Schrag.

The New Berlin Police Department will again be holding its bike rodeo, sponsored by the Town of New Berlin from 10 to noon.

New Berlin officer-in-charge Sgt. Dominick Commesso said the event will feature boy and girl bike raffle along with officer handing out nearly 100 free bike helmets. Children wanting to participate in the event can bring their bikes to the tennis court at Hyde Park at 10 p.m.

The department will also have their two K-9 units on hand for a live demonstration at the event.

A number of downtown New Berlin businesses will also have vendors at the park or will be having sidewalk sales and other offers during Saturday’s festivities, explained Schrag.
