NEW BERLIN – Police charged a parolee with a number of drug-related crimes Monday after they pulled him over for a suspected drunk driving offense and discovered a large quantity of narcotics in his car.

New York State Police in Norwich arrested 24-year-old Luman C. Craver of Mt. Upton and charged him with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a B class felony, driving while ability impaired by drugs and first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both E class felonies.

He was also charged seventh degree possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and possession of a controlled substance outside the original container, a Public Health Law violation.

District Attorney Joseph McBride reported Thursday that Craver is currently on parole and the New York State Division of Parole is seeking to have him remanded to jail without bail for violating the terms of his release.

He also said the case involved prescription narcotic drugs and Craver is facing up to 9 years in state prison for the class B felony, if convicted.
