Norwich weightlifters bring home hardware

Norwich’s high school weightlifting quintet finished second overall in the team standings at the New York State High School Powerlifting Championships last weekend in Newfield. Sophomore Kegan Levesque and junior Cameron Turner were overall winners in their weight class. Ten schools from the Southern Tier were represented and over 150 kids participated. NEWFIELD – Norwich had two individual champions, and all five of its participants placed among the top three in their weight division at the New York State High School Powerlifting Championships at Newfield High School this past weekend.

The event is open to kids ages 14-19 who are in high school or are recent high school graduates, said NHS teacher and coach, Tom Stoddard.

Kegan Levesque (181-pound division) and cousin Cameron Turner (148-pound division) each took first overall in their respective weight classes. Levesque’s total weight lifted in the bench press, squat, and deadlift was 1,300 pounds. Turner racked up 975 total pounds.
