GREENE – Evan Whitmore finished with 25 points for Hancock, and hit a game-winning baseline jumper with under 15 seconds to play as the Wildcats stunned Greene on Wednesday.

The Trojans held a 61-56 lead with 1:20 left in the overtime period following Jeff Carlin’s three-pointer. Hancock’s Tom Bannicky closed the gap to two burying a long-range of his own, and following a Greene miss, Whitmore hit two free throws to knot the game up with 40 seconds left.

Greene’s Brian Day was fouled with 23 seconds left, and scored his team’s final point making one of two free throws. “Hancock is not a bad team and shoots the ball well,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “We scrapped a couple of times to get back in the game. We just need to take better care of the ball and play better defense.”
