Norwich 66, Chenango Forks 50

CHENANGO – Norwich reached one of its preseason goals picking up its 10th win of the season Wednesday night at Chenango Forks.

With the Tornado perimeter shooters misfiring more than usual, senior Richie Bonney picked up the slack on the inside. Bonney had 21 points by halftime, and finished with a career-high 34. “Chenango Forks made a concerted effort to take away our perimeter game in the first half,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “Unfortunately for them, they had no one to match Richie.”

Chenango Forks hung within 34-27 at halftime getting good dribble penetration through the Norwich defense. NHS held the Blue Devils to just eight points in the third quarter, and the three-point shooting finally came around.

Jon Foulds nailed two threes in the third, and Josh Borfitz a third as the lead grew to 16 after three periods, and as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter.

“Our effort on the defensive end was much better in the second half,” Abbott said. “I’m not sure what it was, but we didn’t come out in the first half with the intensity that we needed.”
