See Joe Crookston, in concert, free in LaFayette Park

OXFORD – Saturday, July 11, at 7 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to present the award winning, Joe Crookston, performing in person, on stage, free in LaFayette Park. Joe, a fleet-fingered guitar picker, vocalist and composer, will be accompanied by the talented trio of Doug Robinson on bass, Molly MacMillan on piano, and Charlie Shew on drums. Come and see why Sing Out magazine wrote, “With all the performers out there, an artist has to go beyond good… and Joe does!” Friends and families bring your lawn chairs or blankets – this is a free concert and a special musical treat to be enjoyed by all!

You may have seen the Crookston trio last year when Joe sang historic songs of the Finger Lakes, to help celebrate the Village of Oxford Bicentennial. Well, 6OTS has brought Joe back and he’ll be playing his original songs, under a big tent in the center of the village, many from his award winning album, “Able Baker Charlie & Dog.” This album went straight to #1 on the Folk/Acoustic DJ charts and the International Folk Alliance awarded it the 2009 Album of the Year.

Joe Crookston was chosen as a 2008 Most-Wanted Artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. It’s no wonder, as his performances are filled with a joyful exuberance that he passes right along to his audience. Regarding his ever talented songwriting and musical skills, he rose to even greater heights than before when he received a year-long grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. He traveled the rural hills of New York State and was inspired by old stories ... stories that became songs.
