FIRST robot team takes part in state competition

NORWICH – The Chenango County F.I.R.S.T (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Team, sponsored by Norwich Pharmaceuticals, Inc., joined 49 other teams at the Fingerlakes Regional Competition in Rochester March 6 and 7.

Although team #145 didn’t make it to the top spot, their robot “Theory” performed above their expectations. The game “Lunacy” that swept FIRST teams nationwide in January, was the most challenging game since its inception in 1989.

Dave Sheldon, Team Mentor, said, “We met the primary objectives of creating a significant increase in student interest in science, technology, engineering and its application. It clearly demonstrates that FIRST is more than about robots. It is a life-changing experience—and a lot of fun.” Gracious Professionalism is also a part of the philosophy of FIRST. It’s a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.
