ILION – More late-game heroics from S-E senior Karli Harris enabled the Marauders to escape with an overtime victory Tuesday night.

Ilion’s Sarah Alexander hit a free throw with 12 seconds left to give her club a 50-47 lead. S-E moved the ball over halfcourt before calling timeout. Harris inbounded the ball to Megan Record, who passed it back to Harris on the wing. Harris drained a deep three-pointer with four seconds remaining. It was the second time in 11 days that Harris hit a game-tying three-pointer to force overtime.

“Karli’s made some big shots for us, and those situations, she’s the one to take it,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan.

In overtime, Record drove for a layup and Stacy Palmer put back an offensive rebound to establish command. Harris and Brenda Hoefler tacked on a pair of free throws.

Record finished with a season-high 19 points to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Bridget Irwin chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, and Caitlynn Adams blocked five shots and had five steals.

S-E (6-2, 13-4) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit outscoring Ilion 15-5 in the third quarter. “I wasn’t happy with our defense in the first half, but our man-to-man was really good in the third quarter and we played better as a team offensively,” Mulligan said.
