WHITNEY POINT – Less than one minute into the second quarter, Greene had a four-touchdown lead on Whitney Point, and it cruised to an eighth straight victory Saturday in the rain and muck.

It is the first 8-0 start for the Trojans since the 1966 season, said head coach Tim Paske. Greene takes that perfect record into the Class C playoffs next Saturday at Binghamton Alumni Stadium when it faces Trumansburg at 7 p.m.

“We wanted to finish the regular season strong before the playoffs, and we jumped out on them early,” Paske said. “It was just tough to run the ball after the first quarter (with the field conditions). We didn’t throw the ball and became more conservative.”

Before ratcheting the offense down a bit, the Trojans threw three TD passes and returned a fumble for a score. Brendan Kinne caught a 40-yard TD pass from Nate Whittaker and a 10-yard TD toss from Scott Gorton. Gorton also hooked up with Josh Clink on a 25-yard six-point TD connection.

To end the first quarter, Carlin scooped up a fumble and raced to paydirt.

Whitney Point finished with 126 yards of total offense, and 66 of those came on fourth-quarter TD jaunt by David Kellicut.
