Greene 39, UV-Edmeston 0

NEW BERLIN – Greene clinched an unbeaten season in division play Friday night at UV-Edmeston building a 32-0 halftime lead on the strength of two defensive touchdowns.

Senior Nate Whittaker returned an interception 31 yards for a score, and Nick Wilcox’s five-yard fumble recovery in the second stanza – along with the fourth successful two-point conversion – upped the lead to 32 points.

Whittaker, who also threw TD passes of 18 yards to Brian Day and 20 yards to Brendan Kinne, opened the second half with an 82 kickoff return to paydirt. “Regardless of the score, I was proud of the way we played, especially in the second half,” said UV-E coach Jack Loeffler. “Forget the score, we came together again as a family.”

Greene’s offense was kept off the board in the second half, and finished with just 204 yards of total offense – its lowest this season. On the flip side, the 47 yards of offense yielded to the Storm was the Trojans’ best performance.

“Whittaker is as good a player as I’ve seen,” Loeffler added. “I can’t say enough about Tim (Paske, Greene coach), his staff, and players. They are gracious and a class act.”

Whittaker finished 4-for-5 for 68 yards, and Garrett Hickey’s 49 yards rushing paced the Trojans (7-0).

The Storm play at Sauquoit Valley this Thursday at 7 p.m.
