NORWICH – Stanley Foulds of Norwich recently announced that the 2008 football season will be his final one as a coach in the Norwich Pop Warner program.
Foulds started coaching for the Norwich Cyclones in 1978. Frank Mirabito, the “A” team head coach at the time, noticed Foulds watching practice and asked if he was interested in coaching. Foulds jumped at the chance and was assigned as an assistant coach for Mickey James on the “B” team. Since 1978, Stan has served in a variety of coaching positions including assistant coach on the A team, A team head coach and for the past six seasons as the B team head coach.
Foulds was a standout player in the formative years of the Cyclones’ program. He was a tenacious runner that carried through to his high cchool career at Norwich. His four sons, Aaron, Brandon, Josh, and Tyler all participated in the Norwich Pop Warner football program, and his daughter Ashley was a cheerleader. In addition, his sons Aaron, Brandon, and Josh along with daughter Ashley have all volunteered as coaches. “The Cyclones program has been an important part of our family’s life for over 30 years, it’s a great program,” Foulds said. “I have loved working with these kids over the years. I’m sure that I will miss it, but I will cherish the memories.”
