Chenango County 4-H was well represented at the 2008 New York State Fair. This year each animal area at the State Fair had Chenango 4-H members entered for competition. Congratulations to the following 4-H’ers for exhibiting and competing at the fair!
Participating in the Beef area was Justin Betts – Reserve Intermediate Champion Bull. Going to Syracuse for Dairy were Katelynn Mack and Tyson Smith. Participating in the Dairy Challenge were Kassie Abrams – 5th Senior and Alternate to National Competition in Harrisburg and Noah Ives. The Chenango County 4-H Dairy Judging Team ended up 5th place Junior Team and was comprised of Katy Kemmeren, Noah Ives, Peter Robinson, and Kassie Abrams.
Both the Dairy and Meat Goat areas were represented as well. Chenango County also excelled in the Goat Knowledge competitions at the State Fair. The youth were members of the 1st and 3rd place Junior Goat Bowl Teams and 3rd Senior Team, with several members placing individually; 1st and 2nd place Junior Fitting; 1st Novice and Junior, 2nd Novice, 2nd Advanced Goat Judging; and several “top 10” finishes in the Goat Knowledge Olympics and Goat Product ID Contests.
For the individual shows, the following youth were involved at State Fair: Kalvin Abrams – Grand Champion Alpine, Reserve Best Doe In Show, 3rd Junior Goat Bowl Team; Kara Abrams – Res. Grand Champion Alpine, 2nd Intermediate Showman; Kassie Abrams – Junior Champion Alpine and Nubian, Best In Show Junior Doe, Grand Champion Nubian; Kristie Abrams – 1st Junior Showmanship; Alan and Bethany Lewis; Brian, Susan, and Karl Graham; Noah Ives; Eli Stoltman; Logan Stoltman – Junior Champion and Best Junior Doe of Show; Kaitlyn Stoltman – Senior and Grand Champion Toggenburg, 1st Intermediate Showmanship; Rosie Stoltman – 9th Novice Goat Judging.
