SHERBURNE – McGraw weathered repeated S-E scoring attempts to tie the contest, and held on for the 15th Annual S-E Tournament title Saturday night.
All-Tournament pick Nicole Law broke loose for the go-ahead goal tallying at 14:56 of the first half.
S-E, which fought back in its opening game, had three close-range scoring attempts over the final 10 minutes of the first half and in the opening minutes of the second half, and continually pressured in the McGraw defensive third for most of the final 40 minutes.
McGraw tallied the opening goal just two minutes into the game with Law setting up Kierra Mack.
S-E’s Jasmine Huff leveled the score 12 minutes later after a scramble in front of the goal.
In the consolation game, Mohawk dominated midfield play and handed Greene its second loss of the season. Megan McDermott scored unassisted for Greene.
Section III power McGraw answered Greene’s early lead Friday with three unanswered tallies to advance to the finals of the S-E Tournament.
Kierra Mack tied the game with 12 minutes left in the first half, and Nicole Law netted the go-ahead goal with 15 minutes left in the game following a misplay by Greene’s defense. Law added a header late in the game for insurance.
