Guernsey Library board meets for first time after audit

NORWICH – Guernsey Memorial Library’s Board of Directors will hold a public meeting tonight at 7 in the meeting room at the library. This will be the first public meeting to take place since the New York State Comptroller’s Office released an audit of the library, citing Library Director Melanie Battoe for making $15,000 in questionable purchases.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office found the library director purchased restaurant meals, groceries, beverages and gifts using library funds. The audit, which covered a two-year-period from July 2005 to August of 2007, also found Battoe’s husband was paid $7,800 for computer repairs and services without proper authority or a written contract.
