500 plants seized in pot bust

NORWICH – Police uncovered a large cache of marijuana being grown in the garden of a town resident Monday, confiscating more than 500 plants.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Henry W. Hemsley, 68, of 6370 County Rt. 32, Norwich, and charged him with third degree possession of marijuana, a felony, and unlawful growing of cannabis, a misdemeanor.

A sheriff’s patrol was given a drug tip regarding the location of the marijuana, which was handed over to detectives who visited the residence. The detectives discovered the 500 plants being grown in plain view just behind the house along East River Road at around 11:10 a.m. Monday.

68 years old and you are growing (Probably dealing) cannabis. Don't you wish you had a better retirement plan now? Also, how can you prosecute a 68 year old? Anything over 4 years could be deemed a life sentence. This is just sad.. :(

Wasn't there a movie or a book titled "Hide In Plain Sight"? At least they didn't have to get the 'hot pot 'coper' out to find it in the middle of some farmers' corn field!
