County’s real property tax services could become stand alone department

NORWICH – The Chenango County Real Property Tax Services office could see a change in management next year if a vacant department director’s position is filled.

Treasurer William Evans asked lawmakers last week to have RPTS Assistant Director Donald MacIntosh step away from his current property assessing responsibilities at the end of 2008. MacIntosh requested the shift more than a year and half ago, Evans said, in part due to an illness in his family.

MacIntosh is also the county’s airport administrator. Evans said another reason for the transition was the need for MacIntosh to spend more time overseeing grant implementation at the Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport.

Evans request was to fill a previously created, but thus far not budgeted position. Chenango County’s property tax services have fallen under the guidance of the Treasurer’s Department for the past nine years. It is a stand alone department in most other counties in the state.
